About TechResort
TechResort is a not-for-profit community interest company in Eastbourne that teaches digital skills and runs public digital drop-ins at the Town Hall. Since the first Covid lockdown in March 2020 it has run a device repurposing scheme: donated laptops, tablets and phones are wiped of any remaining data, checked, upgraded where necessary and given fresh software, then passed with accessories and getting-started instructions to people in East Sussex referred by food banks, homelessness and refugee organisations and others.
Donors complete an online form and TechResort arranges a drop-off or collection; it also has phone bank boxes in the community and takes part in national schemes such as the Good Things Foundation device bank and Community Calling. Young staff and work-experience students help with the refurbishment. It currently accepts devices under about 10 years old and has paused taking desktop PCs.
