Verified means we found it on the official register or the scheme’s own list on the date shown. Company says means it is stated on the company’s website and we haven’t checked it yet. Registers can lag behind, so “not found” or “no longer current” is not an accusation. What these mean.

Environmental claims

They say

“Gives a zero-to-landfill guarantee for its IT data destruction service and says no items go to developing countries”

This is the company’s own claim, as stated on its website. We haven’t checked it. How to judge “zero to landfill” claims.

About Recorra

Recorra is the commercial waste and recycling company that grew out of Paper Round, which Friends of the Earth set up in 1988. Its registered office and London depot are in Lant Street, Southwark, with further depots in Lancing and St Leonards, and its materials recovery facility and permitted WEEE treatment site is in Purfleet, Essex.

Alongside general recycling and confidential paper shredding, it runs an IT wiping and disposal service and an IT and electrical waste service. Businesses fill IT crates or cages, or book a clearance; vetted staff collect the equipment, each item is logged and wiped with Blancco software, and drives that cannot be wiped are shredded. Working kit is refurbished for reuse and the rest is dismantled for recycling, with certificates of destruction or safe disposal issued.
