About furbd

furbd is the digital inclusion project of the Hope Foundation, a Middlesbrough charity founded in 1995. Its workshop at Mandale Park refurbishes donated laptops, desktops, tablets and phones, mostly with a neurodivergent team plus college students and work placements.

Businesses can donate surplus IT: the charity's data erasure engineers wipe devices, on site if needed, and issue compliance paperwork, with free collection for larger donations. Individuals can use local drop-off points. Devices that cannot be reused are stripped for parts or recycling.

Refurbished devices are passed to people through more than a hundred local partner organisations, and others are sold in its online shop to fund the work.
