Verified means we found it on the official register or the scheme’s own list on the date shown. Company says means it is stated on the company’s website and we haven’t checked it yet. Registers can lag behind, so “not found” or “no longer current” is not an accusation. What these mean.
Environmental claims
“Items it cannot reuse go to a WEEE-registered recycler (ToRecycle) working to a '95% zero-landfill' standard”
This is the company’s own claim, as stated on its website. We haven’t checked it. How to judge “zero to landfill” claims.
About Catbytes
Catbytes is a registered charity and CIC based at Crofton Park Library in Brockley. It runs free digital drop-in sessions across Lewisham and lends or gives refurbished devices to isolated people, families and people on low incomes, with training on how to use them.
It accepts laptops, tablets and smartphones from individuals and from businesses. Corporate donations are tracked by serial number and wiped with Redkey software to NIST SP 800-88 and IEEE 2883, with wiping reports supplied; faulty drives are physically destroyed. Devices it cannot reuse go to a WEEE recycler.
Individuals can drop devices at Crofton Park Library or other Lewisham drop-off points, post them, or ask for a volunteer collection.
