About Lancaster and Morecambe Makers (LAMM) Computer Reuse

Lancaster and Morecambe Makers is a not-for-profit community makerspace at Harpers Mill in Lancaster. Its computer reuse project, funded by the Lancaster Community Fund, takes in unwanted laptops (preferred), desktop PCs and reasonably modern monitors, securely wipes the hard drives or removes and destroys them, installs fresh software and upgrades parts such as SSDs and memory where needed.

Refurbished machines go to schools, community groups, charities and refugees rather than to individuals; during the pandemic the group supplied more than 150 laptops to pupils learning from home. Equipment that cannot be reused becomes spares for makers or is stripped and recycled. Donations can be dropped at the space during the Wednesday open evening or at another time by arrangement.
