About Keep Kids Connected (Dons Local Action)

Keep Kids Connected is the device scheme of Dons Local Action Group, an AFC Wimbledon-linked charity tackling poverty in south-west London. Started by volunteers in April 2020 to get laptops to children learning at home, it has delivered more than 3,300 donated devices to disadvantaged children, families, special-needs pupils and refugees referred by schools, council children's services and local charities.

It takes laptops up to about eight years old (and some tablets), from single machines to batches of several hundred from companies, and can collect from offices within the M25. Its technical team logs each device, securely erases disks to the standard the donor requires (DoD, NIST 800-88 or HMG IS5), issues certificates of destruction, upgrades and repairs where needed, and PAT tests before delivery. It can also take laptops without drives and sign ownership-transfer agreements.
