About Free I.T. (Stafford)
Free I.T. Stafford is a constituted, trustee-run community group of local electronics professionals and hobbyists, formed in January 2021 to tackle e-waste and digital poverty. It has rehomed more than 2,300 internet-ready devices - laptops, Chromebooks, MacBooks, desktops, all-in-ones and tablets - with charities, schools, local authorities and other agencies, which pass them to people in need.
Donations, including broken kit, can be left without an appointment at donation points in Stafford (including the Castlefields community recycling hub and the household waste recycling centre), Newport and Cannock. Volunteers replace faulty parts such as batteries and chargers, upgrade and electrically test machines, and erase hard drives to the HMG Infosec 5 standard; failed drives are shredded and anything beyond repair goes to the EEE4 charity.
